- A flight crewmember of a large aircraft who is responsible for the power plant operation and its monitoring. He or she may also be responsible for operation of some other specified mechanical systems of the aircraft, including the electrical systems. He or she also may be given the additional responsibility of supervising the turnaround servicing of the aircraft.Brevet adorned by a flight engineer. Similar brevets are adorned by flight engineers of most armed forces.
